Hello everyone!
My name is Larry Merriman and I'm excited to be a part of this message board. I was just wondering if there is a site that you guys go to and if so what are your handles? I would like to try to make it down there for some tournaments sometime. Thanks.......... Larry

Larry,
One site I go to for practice is chess.emrald.net (not the gem emerald). It's great for practicing tactics. Each position is presented to you as if in a game where you don't know the tactic. Each position has an assigned rating so what you want to do is solve each one quickly--the faster you solve them the higher your rating will go! This helps develop quick tactical vision.
Another site I endorse is danheisman.com. He's a national master (and my coach) and writes some very good articles on chess improvement called "Novice Nooks". This is some great stuff you won't see in books (except for his).
Also you may want to consider signing up with the Internet Chess Club (ICC). I think the fee is somewhere around $50 a year now. It's a great way to watch grandmasters play LIVE tournaments, challenge players at whatever time control you wish, listen to webcast shows, watch GM's and IM's discuss various openings, etc.
