Announcing to all members of the Elizabethtown Chess Club:
We are now planning a great new membership benefit: a club chess library! In the simplest sense, it will be a library of chess books and other material that will be made available at chess club meetings to be perused at the meeting or checked out to take home and read. This should be a great benefit for all members! We hope to be able to offer a variety of materials so that all members can find items of interest that they haven't had access to before. And the library should be especially helpful to newer members who need help with the basics: how to play, how to keep score, basic tactics problems, etc. The plan is to have a starter selection ready to present at the first club meeting in June.
But this project will take time and effort to prepare and I need everyone's help! I'm asking any member who can to contribute chess books or other related materials that the library could use. Books are what we'll mostly need to start, but videos, chess equipment, or chess magazine collections would also be great. Any other material that seems appropriate will be considered. And of course, any financial contributions received will be put to good use buying books and other materials and supplies that we'll need. I'm culling through my own library right now and have found several volumes that I'm going to contribute. Can you help with the project? Do you have a chess book that you can contribute to the cause?
There will be lots for me to prepare before the library will be ready to check out books. So I'm asking that members bring any contributions they can make to our next club meeting on Tuesday May 5th. If you have several items, or can't make next Tuesday's meeting you can call me on my cell phone number (on the club list) and I'll make arrangements to pick up the items from you. Please put a note with your name with contributed material so that your generosity can be recognized on a bookplate that I will add to each item. I will miss 2 club meetings in May to visit my daughter in North Carolina, but I'm sure that if you bring materials then to contribute that any officer or regular of the club would be glad to hang on to the items until they see me.
Thanks so much for any help you can offer. I'm hoping you'll be pleased with the resulting club chess library.
