;D Wow what a great meeting!! Robert Hollis became our newest member and came ready to talk trash and kick butt.Robert should fit right in and be a great addition to the Club.
James Osborne, who played in our April Saturday Tournament, returned to play in his first Tuesday night meeting. Good to see you again James!
I knew that putting missing members pictures on milk cartons would pan out. James Whiddon was spotted at the Bowling Lanes Flea Market over the weekend and rescued from his women folk. James and Robert Hollis played several games; I don't know the final score but both were crowing like Banny Roosters after wards. A new rivalry in the making??
James Whiddon is a tough competitor and has a plus score against both Johnny Owens and Jerry Weldin in Tournament play. Be wary and be warned!
Bob Lenning "Opened the Library" !! GREAT JOB BOB!!! Bob donated the majority of the books and they are 1st quality books. There is something for everyone regardless of playing level. Each book contains a chess position and acknowledgment of the donor on the inside cover. The books and their presentation reflect a great amount of work and effort on Bob's part. I have been a member of several Chess Clubs in my Military Travels; but I have never been in a club that had a library until now! I feel ashamed that I only donated one book and one CD; I pledge to donate at least 10 more books from my library; I'm getting too old to benefit any longer and it would be selfish of me to keep them when young bucks like Darren, Steve, and Nick (who whipped me like a rented horse tonight) could put them to use and improve their (and consequently our Club's) rating and playing strength. They in turn can pass it on to the next generation of E-town Chess Club members.
There was a great "camerade" in the hall after the games tonight; I played the "devil's advocate " as always but many good ideas were presented. It seems we need to find another venue with more "public exposer" and Darren says that the majority want it to be on a Friday night (in addition to our regular Tuesday night meetings). Please send your thoughts on this to me, Ernie, Johnny, or Steve.
I hope as many as want to can make it to the KY Open this weekend and mark your calenders for the Bluegrass State Games in Radcliff 11 July!!
I just got an order for two shirts from John Coffey!! Utah is a far reach from here; but we have members there!
News too shocking not to share: Brian Lucas (our 2nd Club President) reports that our founder and 1st Club President Justin Berg has decided to abandon chess for a career as a professional poker player. Justin is also getting married in the near future!
I hear a fat lady singing and it's tomorrow already so see you next time across the board!!
